If I’m not holding my camera, or parenting my kids, then I’m in the ballet studio, so ballet photography in Surrey is one of my favourite jobs.

Just before Christmas, Joanne Ward Dance Academy in Hersham performed The Nutcracker, and invited me along to capture the action!

I was delighted to be able to offer both studio portraits (individual and class) and live-action shots, which were wonderfully well received by parents and students alike.

Parents were able to purchase photographs in either digtal or print format, which I’m sure helped tick off a few Christmas presents for family and friends!

Joanne Ward Dance Academy was established in 2004 and offers dance classes for budding dancers age 3 to 83 in Hersham, Surrey. On this occassion, the stars of the show were the tiny tots, with the audience full of ‘ooohs’ and ‘aaahs’ as they danced and acted their way through their performance.

It was also wonderful to see the Silver Swans perform, which is an initiative from the Royal Academy of Dance to allow older learners an opportunity to take part in ballet classes. All abilities and all ages are catered for, and at JWDA, Silver Swans also provides a sense of community and togetherness with monthly coffee catch ups after the Wednesday morning class.

Ballet classes for children are taught by Miss Jo, the school’s principal, as well as Miss Holly and Miss Aria. Trained by the Royal Academy of Dance, they provide not only high quality teaching but inspiration, fun, and encouragement to the students. This was really evident at The Nutcracker performance – all the chidren were having fun and relishing the chance to perform on stage.
