Preparing for your Autumn Themed Mini Photo Shoot

Preparing for your Autumn Themed Mini Photo Shoot

Autumn family of four

Thank you for choosing Katie Lister Photography! This page will guide you through how best to prepare for our photography session, including what to expect, clothing choices, how the session will run, and choosing your final images.

I’ve incorporated my experience at being both behind the camera, and in front of the camera for my own photography sessions, to help you get the most out of yours. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.

I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!

What to Expect

  • Our mini session will last for 20 minutes.
  • I will take a variety of photographs – invididuals, pairings and family groups. If you’ve got something specific in mind, please do let me know!
  • I will guide you through the session to help you feel at ease – most of my images with children are based on fun and games to keep everyone relaxed and capture natural expressions.
  • Worried that your children won’t behave? Please don’t! I am experienced in working with children of all ages and know how to get the best from them. I can coax even the most reluctant of children into having fun.
  • It is not necessary to coach or bribe your children to smile or look at the camera – I’m looking for natural expressions and will interact directly with your children to get the best from them. I might ask for your assistance in capturing the attention of younger children, but I may also ask you to step away and let me focus on engaging directly with little ones (or older ones!). Please don’t be offended if I do this and just use it as an opportunity to relax!
  • For sessions with babies or young children, please bring wet wipes, spare clothes and nappies, and a few favourite toys. If you have a favourite baby blanket or two, please bring them along to add a personal touch to your images.

what is a photoshoot like

What to wear

Clothing choices are a very important part of preparing for your photography session. There are a few simple tips that you can follow to help maximise the impact of your finished images, and if you get stuck, feel free to chat to me, or look on my blog for inspiration.

Choose complementary colours

  • The aim is for your family to look coordinated, but not matching. By sticking to 3/4/5 complementary colours (depending on the size of your group), each family member will look different, but you will avoid looking too ‘busy’ (clashing colours, too many colours), or looking like one colour block (too much of the same colour).
  • Colours that look great in the autumn are blues, yellows, reds and oranges!
  • All black or all white clothing is best avoided.

Add some interest

  • Layering your clothing is also a great way to add interest and allow us to change your look between shots by adding or removing layers
  • Stripes? Checks? Flowers? Polka Dots? I love them all! But please steer clear of large logos and dominant text which could detract attention from the subject in the final images.

Be comfortable

  • If you feel good in your clothes, it will help you to relax and have fun during our session.
  • If we are shooting in a casual setting such as the beach or park, then try to keep your clothing casual too.
  • The same goes for your little ones – when dressing babies please keep clothing fuss-free.

When I’m in front of the camera for my own family photoshoots, I always splurge on a blow-dry for my hair. Not only does it make me look nice, but it makes me feel confident and happy. It’s a small cost in the grand scheme of what I invest in family photography. This isn’t essential of course, but if there’s something that helps you feel great, treat yourself!

Here are some examples of families that I’ve met with great clothing colours and combinations for autumn:

After our session

  • You will receive a link to a password-protected gallery of images within 2 weeks of our session. The gallery is open for two weeks for you to place your order.
  • I am always on hand via email or phone, or in person if you prefer, to help you choose your favourites. Your gallery link can be shared with friends and family if you wish.
  • Delivery of your final products will take place as soon as possible after your payment is received. Exact timings will depend on what you order.

PREPARING FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION IN THE SURREY POPPY FIELDS

I’m really looking forward to meeting you and your family for our upcoming photography session at the Surrey poppy fields! Below you will find some useful information on how to prepare and what to expect on the day. If you have any questions, please contact me any time.

Surrey poppy fields

What to expect

Our mini photography session will last 25 minutes.

I will take a variety of photographs – individuals, pairings and family groups. If you’ve got something specific in mind, please do let me know!

I will guide you through the session to help you feel relaxed – most of my images with children are based on fun and games to keep everyone relaxed and capture natural expressions.

The session will revolve entirely around the children, please try to ensure they are well rested and fed.
Worried that your children won’t behave? Please don’t! I am experienced in working with children of all ages and know how to get the best from them.

It is not necessary to coach or bribe your children to smile or look at the camera – I’m looking for natural expressions and will interact directly with your children to get the best from them.

I might ask for your assistance in capturing the attention of younger children, but I may also ask you to step away and let me focus on engaging directly with little ones (or older ones!). Please don’t be offended if I do this and just use it as an opportunity to relax!

For sessions with babies or young children, please bring wet wipes, spare clothes and nappies, and a favourite toy.

Social distancing

Government guildlines currently permit up to 6 people to meet outdoors, as long as social distancing is maintained.

In order to ensure safety for your family and for me, I will keep at least 2 metres away from you at all times. I appreciate this can be tricky with young children – I have fast feet and will do my best to move if they don’t!

This does mean that I’ll greet you with a wave instead of a handshake or a hug or a high-five. It also means I won’t be adjusting your child’s t-shirt or tickling their toes, but we will still have lots of fun.

Please could you bring your own blanket for us to use for seated shots. If you have one with a subtle colours or plain in design, all the better. I will carry some freshly washed spares in case you don’t have one, and ensure that I use them for one family only before washing them.

If anyone in your household has symptoms of COVID-19, please contact me to postpone our photography session. I will do the same.

What to wear

Clothing choices are a very important part of preparing for your photography session. There are a few simple tips that you can follow to help maximise the impact of your finished images, and if you get stuck, feel free to chat to me, or look on my blog for inspiration.

Choose a colour theme

The aim is for your family to look coordinated, but not matching. By choosing 2-3 colours for your family to wear, each family member will look different, but you will avoid looking too ‘busy’ (clashing colours, too many colours), or looking like one colour block (too much of the same colour).

Colours which look beautiful in the Surrey poppy fields are red, cream, blue, and yellow!

Add some interest

Layering your clothing is also a great way to add interest and allow us to change your look between shoots by adding or removing layers.

Please steer clear of large logos, motifs and dominant text which could detract attention from the subject in the final images.

Be comfortable

If you feel good in your clothes, it will help you to relax and have fun during our session.

Your images

Your photographs will be ready to view in an online gallery, approximately 2 weeks after our photo shoot. You may choose 4 images to receive as digital files. The remaining images in your gallery can be purchased as digital files for an additional £99. I also sell framed wall art and will provide examples of these products after your photo shoot.

Your gallery will be live for 1 week to make your selections.

Preparing for your in-home family photography session

Preparing for your In-Home Family Photography Session

Thank you for choosing Katie Lister Photography! This page will guide you through how best to prepare for our photography session in your home, including what to expect, clothing choices, how the session will run, and choosing your final images.

I’ve incorporated my experience at being both behind the camera, and in front of the camera for my own photography sessions, to help you get the most out of yours. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.

I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!

What to Expect

  • Our session will be very relaxed and documentary style, so you don’t need to worry about your children behaving in a certain way, or if you baby needs to feed, sleep or be changed!  I will guide you through the session to help you feel at ease and play lots of fun games with the children.
  • The session will most likely last 1-2hours, as we take plenty of breaks for babies and children whenever needed.
  • I will take a wide variety of photographs -individuals, pairings and family groups. If you’ve got something specific in mind, please do let me know!
  • Worried that your older children won’t behave? Please don’t! I am experienced in working with children of all ages and know how to get the best from them. I can coax even the most reluctant of children into having fun.
  • It is not necessary to coach or bribe your older children to smile or look at the camera – I’m looking for natural expressions and will interact directly with your children to get the best from them. I might ask for your assistance in capturing the attention of younger children, but I may also ask you to step away and let me focus on engaging directly with little ones (or older ones!). Please don’t be offended if I do this and just use it as an opportunity to relax!

Taking photographs at home

  • I favour shooting in rooms with plenty of natural light, so would welcome to chance to look around your home and choose which areas will work best. I can supplement natural light with flash if and where required.
  • Light permitting, my favourite places to photograph your family are the lounge, master bedroom and children’s bedrooms. Tidying and decluttering these areas will help me, but I’m always happy to do this when I arrive and am known for shifting things around to get the right shot!
  • Please advise me before our session if you have parking or access restrictions in your area.

What to wear

Clothing choices are an important part of preparing for your photography session. There are a few simple tips that you can follow to help maximise the impact of your finished images, and if you get stuck, feel free to chat to me, or look on my blog for inspiration.

  • For baby, I recommend keeping clothing really simple – plain babygros or vests which fit as snugly as possible look best on tiny babies. If you’re purchasing something specifically for our session, buy a size which just fits now, rather than one for baby to grow into. This will avoid your baby looking swamped!
  • I love to use your own blankets, muslins or special items to personalise your images. Please have these to hand!

Choose three complementary colours

  • The aim is for your family to look coordinated, but not matching. By sticking to three complementary colours, each family member will look different, but you will avoid looking too ‘busy’ (clashing colours, too many colours), or looking like one colour block (too much of the same colour). For example, choose blues, pinks or pale greens with beige or grey and a dash of white.
  • Neutral or pale colour tones look really great in newborn photographs as it creates a soft colour pallette.
  • Black clothing is best avoided.

Add some interest

  • Layering your clothing is also a great way to add interest and allow us to change your look between shots by adding or removing layers
  • Please steer clear of large logos and dominant text or motifs which could detract attention from the subject in the final images.

Be comfortable

  • If you feel good in your clothes, it will help you to relax and have fun during our session.
  • The same goes for your little ones – when dressing babies please keep clothing fuss-free.

When I have my own family photography sessions, I love to book a blow-dry for my hair. It helps me to feel great and more confident in front of the camera with minimal effort and it’s a small cost in the grand scheme of what I invest in family photography. This isn’t essential of course, but if there’s somthing that helps you feel great, treat yourself!

After our session

  • You will receive a link to a password-protected gallery of 30-40 images within 2 weeks of our session. The gallery is open for seven days for you to place your order of digital files, frames and/or prints.
  • I am always on hand via email or phone, or in person if you prefer, to help you choose your favourites. Your gallery link can be shared with friends and family if you wish.
  • Delivery of your final products will take place as soon as possible after your payment is received. Exact timings will depend on what you order.
  • You will have read my full price list before you booked, but here’s a link again.

Please remember that I am a mother too, and totally understand what life is like with babies and children. If you manage none of the above, don’t worry… we will still capture beautiful images of your family!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me at any time. I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!

Back to School Mini Photography Sessions

Back to School Mini Photography Sessions

Back to School Mini Photography Sessions -  September 2023

NEXT Sessions – Saturday 9th September 2023

‘Back to School’ mini photography sessions will capture natural and happy photographs of your child in their uniform!

  • My school photographs are taken outdoors, where kids feel relaxed and free – not the usual ‘school photo’ formula of studio lights and a backdrop which can be intimidating for some children
  • I allow plenty of time per child to allow me to capture their personality – no forced smiles!
  • I take the stress out of the first day of school by recording the start of the school year for you. No more bribing your child for a photo as you rush out of the door!
  • Social distancing is ensured – we are all outdoors and I will not touch or get too close to you or your child/children.

Sound appealing? Here are all the details:

  • £79 per child, which includes a 15 minute photo shoot and 4 high resolution digital photographs for download.
  • Add a sibling for £49, which extends your session time by 10 minutes, and gives an additional 4 digital photographs.
  • Add third and further children for £20 each, extending your session time by a further 5 minutes with two extra digital photographs. This means if you have three children, for £148 you receive a 30 minute photo shoot and 10 digital files of your choice.

To book for your child or children at a beautiful private location in Walton on Thames, please complete the form below.

Katie was AMAZING with our 4 year old & immediately made her feel at ease, relaxed & comfortable. She had her giggling & smiling non-stop! Our daughter loved it so much she keeps asking when she can have more photos with Katie again…something we will definitely organise in the future!

Georgie, mum to Olivia

Back to School mini photography sessions are suitable for any school age child – from nursery to sixth form. It’s also a great chance to capture a sibling photograph if your children attend different schools.

A photography session just for your children allows me to spend more time than the minute or so that a school photographer is afforded per child. In 15 minutes I can get to know them, put them at ease, and capture really natural expressions.

Preparing for your spring family photo shoot

Preparing for your Spring Family Photo Shoot

Thank you for choosing Katie Lister Photography! This page will guide you through how best to prepare for our spring photo shoot, including what to expect, clothing choices, how the session will run, and choosing your final images.

I’ve incorporated my experience at being both behind the camera, and in front of the camera for my own photography sessions, to help you get the most out of yours. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.

I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!

What to Expect

  • Colours that look great in the spring are blues, yellows and pinks!

If we are at home or the outside temperature allows, I thoroughly recommend just a vest or babygro for the tiniest family members.

When I’m in front of the camera for my own family photoshoots, I always splurge on a blow-dry for my hair. Not only does it make me look nice, but it makes me feel confident and happy. It’s a small cost in the grand scheme of what I invest in family photography. This isn’t essential of course, but if there’s somthing that helps you feel great, treat yourself!

Here are some examples of families that I’ve met with great clothing colours and combinations for spring:

what-to-wear-spring-photoshoot

After our session

  • You will receive a link to a password-protected gallery of images within 2 weeks of our session. The gallery is open for 7 days for you to place your order.
  • I am always on hand via email or phone, or in person if you prefer, to help you choose your favourites. Your gallery link can be shared with friends and family if you wish.
  • Delivery of your final products will take place as soon as possible after your payment is received. Exact timings will depend on what you order.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me at any time. I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!

Natural Nursery Photography in Surrey

Natural Nursery Photography in Surrey

Each year I take my natural approach to photography to a select couple of nurseries and playgroups in Surrey, to capture natural nursery photographs.

I photograph children outdoors and at play, to capture authentic smiles and natural photographs which parents love to buy.

I also give a percentage of profits back to the nursery, to help raise funds for the benefit of the children.

If you would like photographs like this at your nursery, please get in touch!

Commercial Nursery Photography

I also provide commercial photography for Surrey nurseries and playgroups that are looking for photographs to use in marketing materials, on websites and social media. Please contact me for enquiries and rates.

Preparing for your autumn themed family photo shoot

Preparing for your Autumn Themed Family Photography Session

Autumn family of four

Thank you for choosing Katie Lister Photography! This page will guide you through how best to prepare for our photography session, including what to expect, clothing choices, how the session will run, and choosing your final images.

I’ve incorporated my experience at being both behind the camera, and in front of the camera for my own photography sessions, to help you get the most out of yours. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.

I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!

What to Expect
