2019 was a wonderful year, both personally and professionally. Our children are becoming more independent as they grow up which means there has been more time for me to focus on growing my Surrey photography business. Not only that but there have been more windows of opportunity for some personal time too. Overall I would say that the year was a success! So as we launch into a new year, I thought it might be good to write down some of my plans for the year ahead to keep me on track.

1. Meditate more

I wrote before Christmas about how I was planning to reduce stress levels at Christmas. It really worked for me and we had a very nice-but-not-too-crazy Christmas time but it got me thinking about the rest of the year. Stress can really creep up on you in lots of small ways and before you know it you’re overwhelmed.

In June 2019 I started using the  Headspace app  to help me find 5-15 minute blocks of time for ‘me’. I only did it here and there, but the app tells me I meditated for a total of 8 hours!

This year I plan to use Headspace regularly to keep stress levels in check. Short meditations really help me to clear my head and find some calm in the storm that is family life.

2. Reduce our family plastic waste

As a family we have been actively trying to reduce our plastic waste and in 2020 we want to do more. Since my previous blog post on this topic we have become quite enthused with the task! A recent change in our household is using the fanastic reusable Bee Green organic food wraps in place of cling film, and next on the list to address are tea bags and sanitary products…

3. Photographing more local businesses

In 2019 I was delighted to get the opportunity to shoot a wide range of local businesses and freelancers. From a local electricians business through to a baby sign language class, it has been wonderful to support other Surrey businesses grow with new corporate photography. I look forward to doing lots more this year.

4. Do more Surrey photography family shoots

My love for family shoots grows stronger each year and the emotional aspect of photography was one of the main reasons why I changed careers. I did some amazing family photo shoots in Surrey last year including these in the Autumn and these gorgeous family photos at home in Esher. I can’t wait to work with many more families and help them capture their special moments.

5. Make time to do the things I love

One of my absolute highlights of 2019 was getting the chance to go and watch a Strictly Come Dancing live recording. I’m a huge fan of the show and watching it in person has been on my bucket list for some time. 2019 was also the year I joined Rock Choir and rekindled my love of dance, taking up ballet again after a 15 year hiatus! All of these have brought an element of fun into my life and a huge amount of joy. This year I plan to do more of the things that I love and have as much fun as possible!
